How to Achieve Your Goals

It’s a bit early for New Year’s resolutions, but since the probability of you sticking to them isn’t too high (considering they are often made hastily after a few too many drinks) maybe it would be better to start considering your goals.

It’s easy; just think about what you want (obviously within reason) and off you go! Knowing what you want is the easy part, it is just achieving them that can sometimes prove a little difficult! Here are five ways to help make sure you reach them.
 

1: Be specific!
Knowing what you want to achieve is very important, as well as having a date to do it by. It isn’t specific enough to say ‘I want to be fit’, it’s better to say ‘I want to run 2kms non stop by my birthday’. It is specific and also measurable. 

2: Step by step!
Depending on your goal, quite often they can be so big and overwhelming that it seems near impossible that you would reach them. So work out your goal step by step, maybe one or two things you can do each week or month, which will get you one step closer to the bigger goal. 
 

3: Get organised
For some people this could possibly take away the thrill of setting a goal, but it is pretty important so that you can work out your step by step. If you have a savings goal, you need to organise a budget. If you want to travel overseas you need to plan where, when and how much money you need to survive. Unfortunately goals don’t just happen without a bit of planning.

4: Make it visual
If you have it written somewhere, like on a calendar or a colourful reminder on your wall (at home, your bedroom, next to your desk at work etc) you are less like to forget what you are aiming towards! Make it eye catchingand maybe if other people see it (if it isn’t too personal) they may keep you on target by reminding you to work towards it as well.

5: Believe in yourself!
At the end of the day you are in control of your life and what you do and don’t achieve! You can do anything you set your mind to and you need to reassure yourself of that everyday.

You are very powerful and so are your thoughts, so focus on what you want, plan it according to your life and before you know it you will be half way there! And don't forget to congratulate yourself every so often!
