About You
How to make your man melt!

We all want love – to be in love and loved back! Most of us overlook it, but it’s so important to let the people we love know how much they truly mean to us.

We were inspired by the gorgeous flick, P.S. I Love You, starring Hillary Swank and Gerald Butler. This heart warming film (out now on DVD) will melt your heart, as it explores one of the toughest challenges life could ever throw at you – what happens when love ends too soon?

The film traces Holly (Hillary Swank) and her journey of grief after the love of her life Gerry (Gerald) passes away suddenly. Luckily, Gerry knew Holly better than anyone, and before he died planned out a string of love letters to guide her through her grief and help rediscover herself in the process. Each gorgeous letter arrives mysteriously, and sends her on a new adventure… The only thing that always remains constant is the sign off – 'P.S. I Love You'. Aww!

The movie shows that love has no limits, and reminds us that we should all take time out to write a precious love letter to the ones we love. We’ve pulled together the ultimate guide to
writing the perfect love letter, guaranteed to make the heart of any man melt!

1: Use gorgeous stationery
Before you even put your pen to paper, make sure you find some paper or a card that is as equally beautiful as the words you’re going to jot down! Check out etsy.com or nutandbee.com for some uber adorable stationary. Or you could add extra meaning to your love letter by whipping up a card all on your own! Click here for our art director Sarah’s instructions on how to make a beautiful but oh so simple card for your loved one!

2: Be specific
Now down to business! Think carefully about the message you want to give – you don’t want it to be too drawn out and boring! Make it concise and interesting – straight to the point. Be specific and say exactly how your man or loved one makes you feel, and why he makes you feel that way.

To get thinking ask yourself what are his greatest strengths? What do you see in him that he doesn’t see in himself? What made you fall in love with him? How has your world changed since you got together? What is your favourite memory of being together?

We loved this extract from our very own P.S.I Love You love letter writing competition, from Jenn in Wellington, ‘I am so lucky to have you… Someone who introduces me to things I would never have come to love. Snowboarding, tramping and even (gasp!) watching the rugby!’

3: Use examples
As you write add in specific examples to show him that you do pay him a great deal of attention – there’s nothing more flattering than knowing some admires your every move! Share a favourite memory – we loved how Erin from Tauranga did this in her letter to her partner, ‘We have had so many fun experiences together, Wellington, Auckland, Coromandel, The Snow…’

It makes it all the more personal, and shows them exactly why they deserve all your amazing love! Also put in a hope for the future, this shows that you really would like them to be a part of it. It may seem obvious but it can be so easy to overlook.

4: P.S. I Love You
Above all make sure you sign off with the classic, understated but oh so telling, ‘P.S. I Love You’. There is nothing more romantic than telling someone you love them and you just can’t have a love letter without it!

5: Spell check
Make sure you proof read your letter – you want it to be memorable for how amazing it is, not how awful it is!

To help inspire you we have 15 copies of the gorgeous P.S. I Love You on DVD. You’re bound to love this heart warming chick flick, so click here now to get yourself in the draw!
