If you’re anything like the typical nzgirl, you’ll get excited by these three words: holidays, travel and best friends!
Here in the office we love nothing more than trips away with our buddies – it’s absolutely a no fail combination. They make for some of the most hilarious, fun, crazy and memorable times in a women’s life – as long as there aren’t any serious hiccups!
Having indulged in our fair share of holidays with the girls (and guys) we’ve come up with our top ten tips for holidays with your mates! We’ve got all the do’s and don’t’s covered, so that your next trip away is nothing short of amazing, and that you all come back tighter than ever! No 1: MusicIf your holiday is going to involve an old school road trip, take note! There’s nothing worse than fighting over which music is going to be played in the car. Having to endure three hours of The Feelers if you’re a Lil Wayne lover is not going to go down well – no matter how much you love your buddies. The best bet is to agree on a playlist before you hit the road, whether that means taking turns to listen to each others music, comprimising on stuff you all like, or taking your own iPods (however this option is quite anti-social and half the fun of the trip is chatting away randomly!). 2: Travel in packs You’re on holiday with your friends so make sure you don’t lose them! Don’t wonder off by yourself, and just as importantly, don’t let your friends either. Keep safe by travelling in packs! 3: PhotosCapture all those awesome holiday moments on camera, this way you’ll be able to reminisce and relive all those fun times, even when you’re stuck at work, with impossible deadlines and no holiday in sight! To make sure everyone gets in on the action be sure to share around cameraman duties – you don’t want to get back and realise there aren’t any photos of you because you were always behind the camera. 4: Money It sounds annoying but it's really important to figure out how you’re all going to pay for things before hand. You don’t want one person to always have to shell out their card, so whether you all pool some money together or arrange to pay for different things, suss out some kind of money plan so everything is kept fair and no bitchniess flares up. 5: PlanRunning off spontaneously to an exotic location you’ve never been before may sound exciting, but after a few hours of being lost and not knowing what to do – you quickly get over it. Research your holiday destination beforehand and jot down a few sights, activities or places that you want to visit. This way if things get boring or take a twist, you’ve got a few options up your sleeve. 6: Mix it up Everyone should think of somewhere they haven’t been or something they haven’t done and make it their mission to do before the holiday is over. Whether it’s something as simple as taking a photo by the Ohakune Carrot or trying to chat up a local babe at a random bar – pick your mission and do it! It’ll add loads of laughs to your trip regardless. 7: Make sure you’re organised! Think ahead and make sure you’ve got directions and accommodation sussed. After driving for five hours the last thing you want is to get lost and run out of gas in the middle of nowhere, or rock up to find that every motel in the town is booked up! Come on Richard! 8: Don’t over plan Do get excited about your trip, but don’t go overboard! Just like the ‘New Year’s Curse’, when you get too hyped about something it usually doesn’t live up to your crazy expectations. While it’s totally awesome to look forward to something, don’t get too upset if it’s not the absolutely perfect and flawless holiday you were expecting. Just relax and it'll be great! 9: Pick your friends wiselyLet me explain this one a little better. If you’re after a crazy, wild trip away with lots of visits to local bars, make sure that all your fellow travel buddies are up for the same sort of thing. Otherwise you’ll find yourself bitterly disappointed or in the middle of a war if everyone else wants to have a quiet and relaxing trip away. Make your motives for the holiday clear form the start and everyone will be happy. 10: Be prepared Always pack a bit extra. Think extra cash, food, vino (we love Monkey Bay!) clothes, gas and those boring but utterly indispensable things like first aid kits, maps, cellphone chargers and spare tyres! Ramarea Excited yet?
