Beauty Buys
What to look for: Online or in store, look for people that know their stuff. I personally like to shop at the speciality stores as opposed to the chains because I feel like they have more knowledge on the product ranges. This goes for online as well – a store focussing soley on natural products will have and be able to give a better level of expertise about a natural beauty product range.
What to avoid: Avoid the buzz words and do some research before you head out. Whilst some products look good on paper, in reality they are packed with just as much skin nasties as the products that most people try to avoid.
What to look for: The easiest way to buy eco-friendly is to buy local. It's pretty easy to head along to some where that’s locally owned, that makes their product locally and tries (where possible) to use New Zealand manafactured fabrics. If in doubt, ask! When it comes to the other stores many are working on ranges that are eco-friendly from bamboo blend fibers to recyclable shoes.
What to avoid: If you are trying to shop eco chic then avoid those deleriously tempting bargain basement chainstores. Whilst the bargain level is high the fact is many of them wont be made in the most friendly of enviroments!
What to look for: When it comes to acessories a lot of people tend to forget to shop eco. For me that means going as local as possible, reaching for the vintage before the new. Some acessories are made with real leaps in technology to produce items with a low eco footprint.
What to avoid: Leave those fake Louis Vuittons where they are, along with the fact they are dripping with plastics and harmful glues they are also not made int he most fantastic way. Daily Mail revealed the true cost of your fake handbag earlier this year.
