This week we all turned green envy after checking out nzgirl Steph's amazing postcard from stunning South Africa! Check it out for yourself...
Dear nzgirl,
I'm sending you this postcard from... South Africa
My first thought when I stepped off the plane was... Will I survive the next five weeks here!?
My craziest night was... Going to a Go-Go bar in Swaziland with nine guys, it was different!
The coolest thing I saw was... Fourteen great white sharks when I went cage shark diving in Gaansbai, South Africa. Definitely one of the scariest and most exhilarating things I've ever done. We saw great whites that were over 6m long - just amazing! I have a new found respect for these magnificent creatures.
It's so different from home because... There is actually no speed limit on the roads! Well there is, but no one abides by it! You definitely have to have your wits about you when you drive in South Africa, it is something else! Also seeing wild animals in their natural habitat, you can't compare this to seeing animals in a zoo or in captivity; it's just not the same. After three weeks of safaris and game park drives, I became addicted! I think I would like to try my hand at being a game park ranger, what an amazing job! The South African landscape is also breathtakingly beautiful.
I'd like to come back next time and... Go to Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Zanzibar - I'd love to do all of Africa! I got a taste and want to go back! I also would like to jump off the highest bungey in the world (over 200m in Storms River, South Africa). I was too scared this time round!
I'd recommend this place to you... Because it is one of the most beautiful and challenging countries I have ever been too. The food is out of this world, never have I eaten (and enjoyed and craved) so much meat in my life. South Africans sure know how to cook and prepare their meat! The wine is also amazing!
If you go there "must dos" include the garden route, visiting the stunning wineries in Stellenbosch, Kruger National Park, Cape Town, cage shark diving, safaris, climbing Table Mountain... The list is endless! There is so much to see and do! South Africa is one of my top five travel destinations, it was an unforgettable trip and I'll treasure these memories forever. I'll be back for sure!
