It seems that everywhere you look this time of year people are getting married, and chances are you yourself have been invited to a wedding and are now wracking your brains about what to get the happy couple.
The days where you could get them useful things for their newly nuptial home are gone. It’s more than likely if your friends are getting married, they’ve lived together for some time and probably have all the things they need already.
Plus, who really wants to give a boring old duvet set or sandwich press to their friends on the happiest day of their lives anyway?
Here are a few ideas for unique and fabulously inspired wedding gifts that are sure to thrill your wedded friends… rather than leave them wondering if you’ve enclosed an exchange card.
1. Depending on how flush you are, why not treat the newlyweds to a night in a luxury suit or a quaint B&B? This is a great option if they are close friends, or if you are splitting the cost of the gift with a group of other guests. It might even mean that the couple may be able to spend their first night as man and wife in a place they may not have been able to afford themselves, especially if they are young or have children.
2. Another idea is an all expenses paid dinner at their favourite restaurant, or even a twilight cruise on a local private charter where dinner is included. This kind of experience is unforgettable, and is a lot more personal than a crock-pot!
3. Just because you’re budget is limited, doesn’t mean your imagination has to be. A less expensive alternative to the above idea is to prepare a romantic picnic for the newlyweds to enjoy after their honeymoon. You can pick up a cute picnic basket at a reasonable price, so pop a sign on it reading “Just Married”, fill it with a bottle of wine and an assortment of (non-perishable) nibbles, and include a local map in which you’ve circled all of the most romantic spots to picnic in the area.
4. Buy them a voucher for a beauty or relaxation treatment at a local day spa or health clinic. Alternatively, make them up a hamper of inexpensive relaxation and massage bits and pieces that they can pamper each other with at home.
5. Make their honeymoon extra special. Upgrade their plane tickets to first class, grab them a camera to take some great pictures to remember the trip, or give them some spending money tucked inside a gorgeous guidebook of the area they’re visiting.
Figuring out the right wedding gift will come down to the tastes and personalities of each couple, and how well you know them. Just remember that the most important thing is to show that you’ve put thought into your gift. They’ve cared enough to include you in their special day, so make the effort in return and give a gift that shows them how delighted you are that they’ve finally tied the knot!
