The first date. A worrying, exciting and eventful time in anybody’s life. Whether it’s your first time ever, or your first in a while, here are a few tips to make the whole thing a lot easier.
Because it’s not just for the boys to organise anymore, make sure you read on to have the ‘what, where and when’ of dating dilemmas sorted!
Where Location is a crucial part of the first date if you want to set the right tone, so try these places and get off to a great start.
Café: A café is an ideal setting for a casual, first date. Coffee and conversation. Simple.
Bar: A great ice breaker environment to find out more about each other over a couple of drinks. The key words here being ‘in moderation’ – slurring your words and generally making a total fool of yourself after a few too many is not a good look, and will have your date heading for the door faster than a marathon runner!
Restaurant: Forget the classiest, most expensive restaurant in town as your first date location, although it may impress your date, this shouldn’t be your aim. Not only will your wallet suffer, but a top class restaurant will only serve a dish of ‘uncomfortable’ for you both. Stick to a more budget friendly (but not cheap and nasty!) environment for a more relaxed date.
Left of Centre: If all that sounds like too much hard work, then why not try something a little different to guarantee a few laughs and a lot of fun? The zoo, mini golf, or amusement parks are all great places to have a good time.
When Assuming you’ve sorted out the location for the first date, the next bit is figuring out when the date is to happen.
Obviously a time when you’re both free helps, but depending on where you’ll be going, it pays to think about the time/night of when you're going to catch up.
For instance: shouting at your date, to be heard over the roaring crowds of people at the bar on a Friday night when the rugby’s on is not fun.
Neither is wasting half the day waiting in queues to get on a ride at an amusement park on a busy Saturday. Once you’ve got a good time sorted however, it’s all clockwork from there, now you’ve all you have to worry about is turning up on time!
What What to wear? Sounds obvious really, but it’s worth putting some thought into. Obviously you want to look good, but dressing for the occasion is the important bit here.
Your 5” heels might look amazing teamed with your denim jeans on a Friday night out with the girls, but walking around in them while playing mini golf is not a smart idea. D
ress casual for outdoor dates, think jeans, comfy, flat shoes and a funky top.
Alternatively for an evening date, dare to dress up a bit with a gorgeous skirt or dress and some unique jewelry.
Above all else, confidence and personality, count for more than anything on the first date. Remember to relax, have fun and be yourself. Who knows, you might be in for that second date sooner than you think!
