When it gets cold, wet and windy in winter, going out can seem about as attractive as cleaning under the fridge.
The miserable weather needn’t mean you turn into a hermit for the next three months. Instead, relocate your social life to the warmth and comfort of your place by trying one of these ideas…
Mid-winter Christmas Christmas is the perfect excuse to eat too much, drink too much and talk too much with people you love. So why should it only happen once a year? Holding a mid-winter Christmas at your place doesn’t have to be stressful. You could ask each guest to bring a plate. If you want to branch out from the traditional Christmas dishes, click here for some warming winter comfort food ideas. Then throw up some decorations, light the fire or turn on the heating, and you’re all set for a fabulous night in.
Spice up your dinner party If a mid-winter Christmas sounds too traditional to you, there are plenty of other dinner party themes that would hot up your winter. Spicy foods stimulate circulation and increase body temperature so adopt a Mexican or Indian theme. Both of these cultures have fantastic traditional music so you can heat things up even more by dancing the night away.
Pool party If you or a friend is lucky enough to have an indoor pool, spa or sauna, you can recreate those hot summer nights you miss so much. Turn the heating on full, make the dress code beachwear and shake up the fruity cocktails that remind you of sunnier times. Warning: limit your alcohol intake if you are using a sauna. Saunas dehydrate you and you can get very drunk very quickly.
Movie marathon Remember back to your young teen days when the perfect Saturday night involved friends, movies and junk food? This can still be the recipe for fun on a cold winter night. Get together some friends, snacks and drinks, and as many blankets and cushions as you can find to snuggle up in. If you opt for wine rather than soft drink, tell your friends to bring their pyjamas so no one needs to worry about how to get home in the small hours of the morning.
If you really must hit the town… There will be some nights where you will have to go out no matter how much you want to stay home. To fight off the chill, arm yourself with one of this season’s gorgeous and toasty coats. If it’s really freezing and you might have to spend some time outside, take a bigger handbag so that you can fit in gloves and a scarf. Once you’re at the party, hit the dance floor. It will get your blood pumping so well that you’ll forget the chill outside.
If you need any more motivation to fire up your winter social life, just think: the busier you are, the faster next summer will roll around!
