Welcome to 2009! Whether you're back at work or still on holiday we've got loads of goodies to help keep you feeling the summer love! Click here for a taste of what we've got...
Winter is well under way, and we all know what that means. Sniffles, or in the worst case, the flu. Despite best intentions, those damn viruses can get the better of you.
And if it doesn’t already suck enough that you’re sick then there’s the boredom factor to contend with. One day off work or Uni can almost be fun. Two or three days borders on tedious. But a whole week of feeling awful? That’s just evil.
Boredom busters for the ‘really sick’ stage...
Stay snuggled up in bed and start a journal. If your woozy ramblings are embarrassing to read later on, you can always burn them.
Start a blog – bonus points if you’ve got a laptop, because then you can stay in bed. The easiest place to get started is by setting up a MySpace page. Getting into the online social network thing is a brilliant way to waste time, plus MySpace is full of awesome music.
In between snoozing, coughing and stumbling around the house, movies can while away a day in no time. Rug yourself up and head to the video store – a hat and sunnies provide an excellent disguise for venturing out in public. Most places do five weekly hires for $10 – this is a great way to rent all your guilty pleasures. Too sick to go to the video store? Grab your credit card and join an online DVD rental website – DVDUnlimited.co.nz is a great way to rent movies without leaving your home (or bed).
Get better with old style remedies. Eat chicken soup – those pre-packaged fresh soups at the supermarket are awesome and take all the hassle out of cooking. Soothe sore throats with drinks of boiling water, lemon juice, honey and whisky. (Go easy on the whisky if you intend to drive…)
Things to do when you’re on the mend...
Haul out the cookbooks and make something complicated and delicious. My favourite complicated recipe is triple-layer lemon marshmallow slice – this baby takes a few hours to make, but is totally worth it. Just make sure not to sneeze over the recipe if you intend to share!
Take this day of forced rest to totally pamper yourself. Remove all that grubby chipped toe-nail polish and hop into a steaming bath – or at the very least, soak your feet in a tub until your tootsies are nice and soft. Go all out with manicures, pedicures and gorgeous smelling lotions. You might feel crap, but at least you’ll smell great.
When you’re feeling better, get rid of any of the paperwork that’s been floating around for weeks and stressing you out. Pull all those receipts out of your wallet, and either file them or bin them. File your bank statements, post back that contract, whatever you do just get rid of it. No more paper = happier you.
Go to the library and grab a few books. It’s FREE. If you’re stuck for ideas, check out our Book Section for inspiration.
