Wedding Diary 5: Flowers and Centrepieces
|
|
Gemma, nzgirl’s editor, has just got engaged, so she’s going to keep you posted as she plans the wedding.
If you missed the first entry click here to read all about the proposal.
I feel like the wedding has taken over my life a bit at the moment. Every weekend there seems to be something that needs to be sorted.
I’m a pretty organised (read: anal) person, and I like to have details under control, but I have quickly realised I have nothing on my mum – she wants to have everything wrapped up before Christmas (for a wedding in March!).
Luckily I see her point, and I like the idea of getting everything sorted so I can relax over summer, plus it will mean Paul and I will have more time for planning our three month European honeymoon.
But in the meantime, wedding-related stuff is taking over my evenings and weekends. Case in point: Last Saturday was a mammoth mission… I managed to visit three florists, check out the hall where we’re having the reception and work out the table layout, buy necklaces and earrings for my bridesmaids, have a fitting of my dress and find a potential ring for Paul (I showed it to him the next day and he loved it - boy I’m good!). By the time I got to Saturday night I was too tired to do anything but sit on the couch and blob.
So far I’ve seen four florists and the variation in prices is amazing. The three bouquets for my bridesmaids range from $35 each through to a whopping $120 - talk about a huge difference! I’m still waiting on one more quote to come through before I make a final decision, but methinks they won’t be having bouquets that cost more than their dresses!
Another whole Saturday was spent sorting out the table centrepieces. Luckily this is a task I really enjoyed as my mum and I got to unleash our creative sides.
We found a gorgeous glass at Freedom with a great pattern on it. We’ll use them as vases and sit one in the centre of each table with a hydrangea stem in it - then we’ll have candles and (if I can find pink ones) those little candy heart lollies on either side.
The pattern from the vase ties perfectly to our vintage theme so we’ll be using it throughout our wedding stationery from the invites to the place cards. I’m also trying to source ribbon featuring the design to use on the cake.
A couple of hours one Sunday was spent finalising our guest list. We wanted to have a small, intimate wedding and initially hoped to have about 40 people, which grew to 60, which grew to 100 and is now back down to a more comfortable 72! I still have nightmares that we’ve left someone important off the list though and I’m sure we’re going to offend someone who’s not invited.
Next I’m on a mission to find my earrings, underwear and shoes then I think I’ll take a break from the wedding this weekend. Not that I’m complaining. I don’t really understand why people get so stressed over weddings… it is really fun. Just so time consuming!
