Gemma, nzgirl’s editor, has just got engaged, so she’s going to keep you posted as she plans the wedding.

It’s a little hard to believe I’ve been planning the wedding for six months so far… and yet there’s still so much to organise!
Most of the important stuff (read: my outfit!) is under control. My mum has done the alterations needed to my dress and it fits me like a glove (just need to get my arms nice and toned now – I think it will be a regime of daily pushups for me!).
I managed to hunt out earrings to match the vintage brooch I’m wearing on the dress and the lovely girls at Bendon helped me find underwear that actually gives me a cleavage (sure the chicken fillets have a lot to do with it… but it’s still very exciting!).
In any circumstance it’s people who really go the extra mile that you appreciate, but this is even more the case when you’re planning a wedding. There’s so much to organise so when you come across people who genuinely get what you’re trying to achieve and work to make it happen, life is so much easier!
Case in point the amazing girl at the new Hannahs at Westfield Albany, who went above and beyond to scour the country for the shoes I’d found for my bridesmaids. She managed to track down the last two pairs of 8.5s, which was a huge relief since they were the only shoes we’d found that actually matched the dresses!
Or my lovely florist, Gemma Collins of Country Elegance Flowers, who not only has the world’s coolest name (haha) but is just so nice to deal with I leave feeling warm and fuzzy after every time I see her.
I didn’t even feel like a retard when I popped by with my shoes to make sure they matched the Metalina roses I’m having for my bouquet (sometimes I take colour coordination a bit far!).
Speaking of my shoes, they were another recent purchase. I’m not big on bridal looking shoes and wanted to find some beautiful peeptoe sandals in soft blush pink. Mi Piaci delivered the goods with a gorgeous pair of satin heels (which unfortunately I don’t have a picture of).
My bridesmaids are all sorted as well. In a stroke of luck I found earrings and necklaces in the perfect shade and shape at Portmans, which only set me back $15 a set!
There are a few issues stressing me out. The main one is what Paul and the best man/ groomsmen are going to be wearing (I need to find shirts for them that match the very tricky to co-ordinate bridesmaid colours). I don’t want them to look too formal (ie. no waistcoats) but I also don’t want them to look like they’re going to the office for a day of work… it’s a fine line!
Also causing me to lose sleep is the first dance. As much as I love to shake my booty on the dance floor, when it comes to anything that requires a bit more co-ordination I just don’t shine. The term two left feet could well have been invented for me, and I’m sure my issues will be compounded by metres of train, 9cm heels and all those people watching me! I think some lessons might be in order…
