Wedding Diary 7: Sorting the Ceremony
|
|
Gemma, nzgirl’s editor, got engaged early this year, so she’s going to keep you posted as she plans the wedding.
If you missed the first entry click here to read all about the proposal.
A highlight of the last month was finally seeing inside the church we’re getting married in. I know it sounds a bit crazy, but we’d only seen it from the outside when we decided it was the perfect venue!
We met the minister who will marry us for the first time as well and (luckily) we thought he was fantastic! He put us both at ease instantly, so we’re stoked we both feel so comfortable with him.
Our next task is to nut out the ceremony itself. We’ve both decided we want to memorise our vows, rather than read them off paper or recite them after the minister, so the plan is to finalise them as soon as possible so we can get remembering… although, I’m not sure how successful we’ll be!
We’ve also sorted a few readings for the ceremony, but the music is still causing us a bit of confusion. We have lots of options, but we can’t seem to settle on any of them! Most crucial is finding the right “walking down the aisle” track and I’m not sure whether we should go traditional or contemporary! Any ideas are much appreciated.
Talking about ideas, I love getting emails from you guys with pictures from your weddings and tips about what worked to make your day special. If you want to get in touch just email me here.
This month I’ve also learnt that when it comes to wedding cakes, some people have really hideous taste! I’ve seen pages of tacky, ugly, over the top or just plain wrong cakes. I’ve settled on a simple design for ours, it will be two tiers - chocolate on the bottom and lemon on top - with a fleur de lis ribbon around each layer (assuming I can find some!) and about two delicate roses on top. My dad is still grumbling about the lack of fruit cake, but considering I don’t know anyone (other than him) who likes it, there was no way that was an option!
I also finally found a veil I liked, but I still haven’t had a chance to try it with my dress. I’m going to wait till I have time to try it with my underwear, shoes and jewellery so I can see the full look… exciting!
Other than that, I haven’t done a lot lately. To be honest the initial excitement of organising the wedding has worn off a bit, and I’ve lost focus. Evidently that’s pretty normal, and I’m sure once we get into January and it starts feeling really close I’ll get back into full-on organisation mode!
That said, I have been having the odd nightmare where I’ve forgotten to organise something major. Generally I wake up panting, then sort that particular thing out first thing that morning!
