About You
Ten ways to show you love him this Christmas

He knows you love him…right? Well, that may be, but in this busy party season when there are a million things going on in your social life, your boy can be left by the wayside.

And even if your diary doesn’t resemble a stocking on Christmas morning, it could be that you guy is feeling a bit stressed by the pressures of the silly season himself. Here are our top ten ways to show him how much you care!

1. Help him shop
Most of us girls love shopping so Christmas can feel like…well, Christmas. Guys can find this more difficult. While their intentions may be more than great, shopping malls are startling and busy places that can quell a man’s confidence. He will love you for helping him. Start at home by making a list of the people he needs to buy for, then write down the places where these presents can be found, so that when you head out together, he has at least a vague plan of attack.

2. Realise his dreams
While you might spend the rest of the year rolling your eyes at his little fantasies, Christmas is the time to take them seriously. Does he sometimes mention that he would love to walk the Tongariro Crossing? Or visit his old house up north? Or even go to the zoo? Even if you can’t fit it in before Christmas, sit down with him and plan a weekend sometime soon where you get one of these dreams ticked off the list. He will be so happy that you thought of it - just make sure you follow through!

3. Have you been a good boy?
While we are on the subject of dreams - here is a cheesy one that might just work to put a smile on his face! Visit your local costume hire or naughty store and purchase a Mrs Claus outfit. Be waiting for him when he gets home from work and put on a show!

4. Get waxed
If you have never done it before, go in for a Brazilian this Christmas season. It will give him a special surprise and spice up your love life - which can in turn lower both your stress levels! Bonus!

5. Get creative
While it might sound like sap, even a tough guy likes a poem. Get out your pens, paper and your perfume, for a sweet-smelling touch, and have a think about what it is you love the most about him. It could be a small moment you had together, or a look he gives you, or even the way he loves your Spaghetti Bolognese. Start your poem by talking about what is specifically special about him, instead of falling into the trap of cliché. If it doesn’t sound any good to you, give it to him anyway, along with a bashful apology about how bad you think it is. I bet you will find he loves it anyway!

6. Share his hobby
Again, during the year it is easy to brush off his sports or photography, or whatever it is he is into, as simply a mess-making and slightly annoying time waster. Instead, make an effort to show some interest. Offer to kick the soccer ball around with him at the park, or to pose for some pictures. Not only will you spend some good time together and maybe get some exercise, but he will be pleasantly surprised by your interest.

7. Write a menu
Plan a dinner menu that includes all his favourites and present it to him on the Sunday night then, for that week, cook him his favourite dishes! This could be a good idea just before Christmas and especially nice if you are too broke to afford an expensive Christmas gift - or if he is unlikely to see his family over this special time. You could make it the twelve days of Christmas if you wanted to extend the theme.

8. Talk about what needs to be done
This might sound boring, but helping him to stay organised at this time of year is a great way to show you love him. Sit down with him and write some lists of things that he has to remember - like family functions or New Year savings plans. Just think - when his head is in check, he will have more time for you.

9. Show some special consideration
Make an effort to keep him in the forefront of your mind. When you make yourself a cup of tea, offer him one too - even if you’re in a rush! Call to ask him if he needs anything when you duck into the supermarket for some tampons. Little gestures not only show you love him, but also promote similar behaviour from him. Hopefully you can both make it a habit to consider each other year round. Being so close to the New Year, this is a great time to start!

10. Material boy
Splash out and buy him something that you know he really, really wants! The look on his face when he opens that box will be worth the debt repayments! Yep, sometimes good old-fashioned materialism wins out in the end!
